Who We Are
Grantmakers for Education's mission is to strengthen philanthropy's capacity to improve educational outcomes for all students.
Comprised of over 200 philanthropies throughout the country with different strategies and approaches, GFE is the only national organization representing the diversity of education philanthropy today. GFE helps grantmakers learn about both effective education strategies and effective grantmaking strategies.
Its work is supported by grants and membership contributions. All grantmaking and operating foundations, corporate giving programs, and non-profit organizations whose primary activity is philanthropic support to education are welcome to join Grantmakers for Education. For more details and a list of membership benefits, learn about becoming a member.
GFE's work includes the following projects:
- Workshops and programs: GFE sponsors a variety of highly rated programs—from one-day briefings to "grantmakers only" sessions at national education conferences to its own national conference in the fall.
- Information sharing: GFE produces a regular newsletter, sponsors research reports about effective education philanthropy, and shares important education publications and news with the field.
- Member-driven study groups and briefings: GFE supports opportunities for grantmakers to convene in small meetings and regional groups to learn together, share experiences, and explore opportunities for addressing common challenges.
- Networking: GFE provides a unique directory that allows members to seek out others in philanthropy with specific interests, constraints, strategies, and regional focus.
