Fostering innovation in American education is an important priority of President Obama’s education agenda. Philanthropy’s own Jim Shelton — formerly program director with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — was recently appointed to lead this effort within the Department of Education. On April 23 Jim joined more than 150 GFE members and guests on a special teleconference to explore the Innovation Fund’s goals, how it fits within the Race to the Top Fund, the opportunities that exist for education grantmakers, and recent updates from the Department regarding the education portions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
