Webinar: The Legal Constraints and Opportunities for Supporting Advocacy
11/6/2008

Increasingly, grantmakers are supporting advocacy and policy change strategies to enhance the impact of their grantmaking. Many funders are unaware of the legal latitude they enjoy for supporting policy advocacy and avoid supporting advocacy strategies out of fear of running afoul of IRS prohibitions against lobbying. This webinar—featuring Abby Levine, deputy director of advocacy programs at Alliance for Justice—will outline the legal parameters of foundation’s support for advocacy efforts. This seminar will delineate which activities are permitted by statute, provide examples of why and how foundations have supported advocacy, and consider the impact such grants had on grantees.

The webinar will be useful for funders with prior experience funding advocacy as well as those who are new to the arena of public policy work. Registration is $25 for GFE members/$40 for non-members.
