Education Organizing 101
9/10/2009

noon - 1 pm PT/3 - 4 pm ET

Is your foundation struggling with the issue of parent engagement in school reform? Are your investments being buffeted by the leadership churn in the district(s) you work with? Community organizing is one strategy that has shown impact in addressing both of these challenges. Join Cris Doby of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Candace Bell of the William Penn Foundation, and Michael Kromrey of the Metropolitan Organizations of People (PICO Affiliate) in a lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges of investing in community organizing as one tool in your school reform strategy toolbox. Our speakers will discuss the roles grantmakers can play in supporting civic engagement in their communities beyond financial investments, and how to manage these efforts over time.

Following the aforementioned web seminar, go deeper with us in person by joining us at GFE’s annual conference in Chicago for Education Organizing 201 – Education Organizing in Action: How to Build Political Will and Create Change Now. On the conference’s final day we’ll head out to the field to meet with expert Chicago community organizers and education funders for a provocative dialogue on how best to improve education outcomes for all students via community organizing. Join more than 300 of your colleagues who have already registered for GFE’s conference.

Both events are co-sponsored by GFE's Working Group on Education Organizing and Communities for Public Education Reform (CPER).
