Disrupting our Notions of Education Reform

Harvard Business School Professor Clayton Christensen has long been advising the business community that the innovative new products and services that tend to ultimately displace reigning products are not those that compete head to head for existing customers, but rather those that target the people “not being served or not interested in buying what’s served.” How might his “disruptive innovation” theory apply to the world of education?  How can we reach the millions of students not served well by the current system—not by “tinkering” with existing infrastructures or even necessarily starting schools from scratch, but by reimagining altogether how students might best learn? Hear what Professor Christensen has to say about changing the very way we think about reforming education—including challenging our assumptions about the roles of teachers, classrooms and schools.
