Going Deeper: Big Vision for Racial Justice

Grantmakers for Education recently completed a survey of funders in which 39% identified racial justice in education as the most important area of focus for philanthropy over the next 1-3 years. To better meet member interests for collaboration and development, GFE, in partnership with The Equity Lab, will host a 3-part series of member-only focus groups designed to get specific about the ongoing work members can undertake together. These are open sessions facilitated by experts from The Equity Lab and designed to allow members to voice their perspectives and needs. The ultimate goal will be (1) to identify a small group of members to lead a steering committee to work with GFE staff on the network’s ongoing agenda for racial justice in education and (2) to identify programming interests in the short and longer term.

The meetings will take place April 15, 22 and 29 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. ET. Registering for the series and attending the first meeting does not obligate you to attend all three; likewise you can attend the second one without attending the first.

Lauren Bryant is a catalytic connector, radical collaborator, womanist, and abolitionist working to operationalize spaces of belonging to ignite and sustain change. A native of Augusta, Georgia and Washingtonian for the last decade, Lauren has spent the last ten years developing her craft: designing learning experiences for funders and philanthropists, leading day-to-day operations in single-site charter schools, designing and implementing race, equity, diversity and inclusion programming, and coaching school-based operations teams. Lauren is currently the Director of National Charter Collaborative, a nationwide network of charter school leaders of color, and founder and principal consultant of StartOps, an operations consulting firm supporting schools, education nonprofits, and education adjacent entities seeking to operationalize more equitable practices. Lauren integrates these professional experiences by practicing bikram yoga, preparing plant-based (mostly) meals, and enjoying the outdoors with a good book.
