Equity & Grantmaking Impact Group – Participatory Grantmaking Peer Consult February Session

Grantmakers for Education

Virtual

February 23, 2023, 12:00-1:30 pm ET

Participatory grantmaking is full of challenges, difficulties and unknowns. Thankfully, there’s now an opportunity to chat through dilemmas in participatory grantmaking with peers who are walking the walk.

The Grantmakers for Education Equity & Grantmaking Impact Group is excited to offer two opportunities for peer consultancies for grantmakers who are practicing or are interested in learning about participatory grantmaking on February 23 and April 20. You can register for the February 23 date below or the April 20 date here. You may register for one or both sessions.

Borrowing from a Consultancy Protocol developed by Faith Dunne, Paula Evans, and Gene Thompson-Grove as part of their work at the Coalition of Essential Schools and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, the consultancy helps presenters think more expansively about a particular, concrete dilemma. The Consultancy Protocol has 2 main purposes – develop participants’ capacity to see and describe the dilemmas that are the essential material of their work, and to help each other understand and deal with them.

Hosted by the Equity & Grantmaking Impact Group, we will invite one funder in each session to share their “dilemma” related to participatory grantmaking and seek feedback from their peers. Depending on the size of the group, some participants will be asked to serve as “consultants” providing feedback to the presenting grantmaker, and others will be invited to observe and learn.

Program registration is open to Grantmakers for Education members. Space is limited so register now.
