A new direction for AI and students: Findings from the Brookings Global Task Force on AI and Education

Brookings Institution

Virtual and Washington, D.C.

As AI rapidly transforms how we live, work, and learn, communities around the world are seeking guidance on what comes next. In 2024, the Brookings Center for Universal Education (CUE) launched the Global Task Force on AI in Education to fill this gap and explore how generative artificial intelligence is reshaping education and the student experience.

After over a year of consultations, focus groups, and interviews with education leaders, technologists, AI experts, teachers, families, and students across 50 countries as well as a deep dive into the latest research, the task force is launching a new report. “A new direction for students in an AI world: Prosper, Prepare, Protect” (forthcoming) will share key findings, recommendations, and a coordinated action plan drawn from the year-long global study.

On January 14, 2026, join journalist Kara Swisher, Senior Fellow and CUE Director Rebecca Winthrop, and University of Virginia student Rida Karim as they discuss the report’s key findings. They will explore how AI could transform learning—if well-designed and ethically used—and the risks that accompany a failure to implement these guardrails.

This event will be open to attend in person or watch online.
