The foundation of democracy lies in education and opportunity. Yet the COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the crisis in the American education system, widening inequalities and putting economic mobility even more out of reach. The long-term implications are stark for a society already strained by weakened trust in political leaders, increased polarization and decline in civic participation. Ensuring the public has the information they need to understand these issues and act on them is critical. With the midterm elections now behind us, The Associated Press’ Education Reporting Network and Carnegie Corporation of New York invite you to a conversation that explores the intersections between the challenges facing our educational system and our democracy and how we can inform the public about these challenges in a way that spurs solutions.
